The Role

Reporting to Flarebright’s Head of Engineering, the Aerospace Compliance Manager will be responsible for maintaining, developing, implementing and evaluating strategies that enable Flarebright to comply with relevant aerospace standards and legislation, ensuring successful product delivery and the maintenance of existing operational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining, developing and auditing Flarebright’s Flight Operations Capabilities/Procedures, Safety Management Systems and Product Certification roadmaps, in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Manage the lifecycle of technical documentation, across design and production activities, ensuring development work is tightly controlled.

  • Oversee occurrence reporting, root-cause analysis activities and lessons identification processes where necessary.

  • Stay up to date with all the relevant aviation regulations and standards, industry trends and technological advancements to ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement within the business.

  • Support the flight operations team in delivering safe, compliant and effective test programmes.

  • Support with the recruitment, training and mentoring of Flarebright’s growing compliance team.

Requirements

You must be comfortable working within the defence industry. A Baseline Personnel Security Standard check will be undertaken before an offer is made, and you must be willing and eligible for (or already have) at least UK SC clearance. References will be checked.

Skills and Experience

Experience
  • 5+ years in a compliance lead role within the aerospace industry.

  • 3+ years experience in uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) flight operations, with demonstrable capabilities in writing operational manuals, safety cases and compliance documentation to meet the relevant legislation.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of evolving UAS regulation in the UK.

  • Understanding of aspects of CAA/EASA/FAA aviation legislation and standards relevant to the development and deployment of aircraft software and systems, such as DO-178C and ARP4754.

  • Proven track record of developing compliance monitoring procedures, auditing and evaluating the procedures, driving corrective actions and continuous improvement, and delivering documentary evidence of success. 

  • An established network within regulatory and standards bodies.

General
  • You must be highly organised, reliable and process-oriented with excellent written and spoken English and clear communications.

  • You must be strongly computer literate particularly with documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and cloud drives.

  • Experience mentoring, training and developing personnel.

  • Must have the strength of character/conviction to challenge activities if tangible concerns are identified.

  • Must not be subject to restrictions under any non-UK export laws (such as US ITAR).

Desired Skills & Requirements:

  • Experience as an RPAS pilot.

  • Experience working within regulatory bodies such as CAA/EASA/FAA.

  • Experience implementing, auditing and maintaining compliance against the ISO9001:2015 and/or the AS9100 standards is preferred.

  • Familiarity with national and international export control laws, including ITAR requirements, would be advantageous.

  • This is an onsite position at our Head Office & workshop in Westcott Venture Park (15 minutes drive from Bicester or Aylesbury, 30 minute drive NE of Oxford).

  • This is not a remote position

We work in defence as well as commercial and ‘blue light’ sectors, so you must be comfortable working within the defence industry, and be eligible to work in the UK. We have a preference for those who will be able to work on sensitive defence projects due to nationality (typically UK, NATO or Five Eyes). Due to the security classification on the work we do, we will undertake a routine Baseline Personnel Security Standard check on the successful applicant. This is a standard process which includes references and career history checks.
